WebApr 12, 2011 · very much so. i used 3M adhesive/sealant on the tapered end and then permatex #2 on the threads. gave it a day to set before i reapplied the grease gun. grease it till you've pushed the old grease and can see new grease coming out of the bearing....that is assuming you've pulled the drive for visual. Webbushings, ensure that each hole in the bushing aligns with the grease fitting opening on the steering knuckle. Use special tools grip CH 50439 and bushing repair tool CH 50440 (A) for removal of the kingpin bushings. They do work very well and hold up just like a tapped zerk. Plus you do not have to worry about getting any metal fillings inside of the hole.
WebSep 18, 2015 · You don't absolutely need to replace the bearing buddy. The zerk grease fitting that came out was undoubtedly a 1/4 inch size. They are made in various sizes with the same size nipple. SO: go to a good hardware store or possibly Fastenal and get the 3/8 size. Enlarge the hole and tap it for the new zerk fitting.
